First Canine Cardiac Ablation at Purdue
Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine recently performed its first cardiac ablation on a dog—a Boxer named Ketchup, who had suffered from medication-resistant cardiac arrhythmias. The technique mirrors human cardiology procedures and proved highly successful, enabling Ketchup to resume an active life. This milestone opens pathways for advanced cardiac treatment in veterinary medicine—and potentially benefits for human operations too.

Surgical Oncology & Interventional Radiology Techniques
Techniques such as fluoroscopic-guided tumor embolization are being trialed, for example, at UC Davis to restrict tumor blood supply. Enhanced imaging improves tumor margin assessment and facilitates minimally invasive resection.

RAWR Raw Cat Food – Bird Flu Contamination (H5N1)
The FDA confirmed H5N1 bird flu in two lots of RAWR Raw Cat Food "Chicken Eats" (lots CCS 25 077 with sell-by date Sept 18, 2026, and CCS 250 093 with sell-by Oct 3, 2026). A cat in San Francisco was euthanized after infection. No official recall has been issued; the manufacturer claims the lots were already removed.
This was the first documented cat infection from raw food since March 2025, part of a larger outbreak affecting about 70 domestic cats so far this year.
Experts warn of risks to vulnerable animals and note the potential, though currently low, risk of human infection when handling contaminated items.
